Powers, Bryan
Powers, Bryan
Bryan Powers is a Berkshires‐based sculptor whose process begins with raw materials such as wood stone, and metal, which he fabricates into one cohesive unit. The sculptures he creates have a connection to the natural world, and don’t require the use of paint.
Wood, stone, and metal are my medium. My inspiration is drawn from biological criteria. These all become connected as one.
Connection is a reoccurring word that emphasizes the theme behind my sculptures. My process of creation begins with irregular raw materials, which I then fabricate into one cohesive unit. This is achieved by incorporating techniques derived from cabinet making, metal fabrication and masonry. The sculptures that I create have a connection to the natural world. By using different materials I’m able to broaden my color palette without the use of paint. Paint only suffocates the surface and I like to think of my sculptures as living forms able to connect and react to its environment. In a way my sculptures are never really finished due to the aging of the materials. I see space as a blank canvas.
